Sprouted Ragi Flour Recipe Ideas
1. Sprouted Ragi Beetroot Paratha ( 6+ months )

Beetroots are also very nutritious and beneficial for babies. They contain fibre and folate which are very helpful in digestion and relieving constipation. Beetroots are also rich in Iron which reduces the risk of Anaemia. They also boost production of RBCs and help in increasing oxygen flow. Essential plant nutrients found in beetroots like carotenoids and phenols act as antioxidants and support cellular health.
So without further delay, lets move on to make a wholesome paratha which is dense in nutrients and very filling for your baby.
List of Ingredients
- Littlecherrymom’s sprouted ragi flour – 1 Cup
- Potato ( boiled and mashed ) – 1 medium sized
- Grated Beetroot – 1 medium sized
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Warm water for dough
- Salt to taste ( Recommended for babies of over 12 months old )
Steps to make Ragi Beetroot Paratha –
- Mix all the ingredients in a bowl
- Add water and make a dough. Add water slowly to ensure that the dough consistency is perfect.
- Keep it aside and allow to rest for 15 minutes.
- Now make small balls and use a rolling pin to shape it like paratha. The size of the balls depends upon the desired size of the paratha. We made 4 parathas from the mentioned quantity of ingredients.
- Now cook the paratha with regular method
- Serve hot with curd or any cooked vegetable. This paratha can also be served alone.
Note : Please make sure that the beetroot is properly grated in small pieces as it can be a choking hazard for babies less than a year of age. No other precaution is needed.



2. Sprouted Ragi Flour Halwa ( 10+ months )
Halwa is one of the most common and one of the favourite form of desserts in India. It is made during special occasions and festivals. It is also used as prasadam during many religious ceremonies. The halwa in this article is a another unique and very nutritious sprouted ragi flour recipe. It also contains Littlecherrymom’s nuts and seeds powder which is a powerhouse of immunity boosting healthy fats and dry dates powder instead of sugar.
List of Ingredients
- Littlecherrymom’s sprouted ragi flour– 1/2 cup
- Littlecherrymom’s dry dates powder– 3-4 tsp
- Littlecherrymom’s nuts and seeds powder– 2 tsp
- Ghee- 2 tbsp
- Water- 1 cup
- Nuts (optional). We used almonds, cashews and raisins.
Steps to make Sprouted Ragi Flour Halwa
- Add 1 tbsp ghee in the kadai. When the ghee is heated, fry some nuts. Leave some for garnishing later.
- Now add 1 tbsp ghee and 1/2 cup sprouted ragi flour. Roast for 3-4 mins on low to medium flame.
- Add water gradually and stir to break all the lumps.
- Now make small balls and use a rolling pin to shape it like paratha. The size of the balls depends upon the desired size of the paratha. We made 4 parathas from the mentioned quantity of ingredients.
- Keep stirring until the water is evaporated and halwa like consistency is achieved.
- Add nuts and seeds powder and dry dates powder. Stir to mix and switch off the flame.
- Garnish with remaining nuts. Serve and enjoy hot.
Note – It can be served as a barfi
For barfi- immediately after cooking pour it in a container and allow it to cool. once it is set, cut into burfi shapes.







3. Sprouted Ragi Porridge (6 Months+)
List of Ingredients
- 1/3 cup Ragi powder
- 2 cups coconut milk/almond milk/cow milk(12months plus)/water
- Any seasonal fruit puree
- Littlecherrymom’s nuts and seeds powder or finely powdered nuts of your choice
Steps to make Sprouted Ragi porridge
- Add a small amount of water and make a paste of the powder
- Add this to boiling milk or water and cook for 4-5minutes
- Add any fruit puree to sweeten it and top it up powder of nuts and seeds to make it more nutrients dense
This porridge can be offered from 6months of age. For BLW serve on preloaded spoons, for traditional weaning feed the baby.
After 9 months you can also use dates, figs to sweeten the porridge.
